#4 The Saddler

Master Saddler Alive Nuttgens based in Buckinghamshire has been fitting saddles since 1996, one of the country’s first qualified saddle fitters she has worked with and trained young horses all her life and is recognised in the breeding of racehorses.

Each saddle she makes is unique to the horse and rider to ensure a perfect fit.  Many of her tools have been handed down and bought from saddlers who have gone out of business, her saddle stand was made for the Royal Saddler and has held saddles for the Queen Mother in the past.

Each saddle is crafted by hand down to each individual stitch, extensive attention to detail is key to ensuring returning customers.  She is also undertaking the designing and creation of bags and saddlebags made out of reclaimed leather from old saddles.

As a member of The Society of Master Saddlers, Alice Nuttgens is deeply rooted in the preservation and maintenance of the skills and craftsmanship needed to produce high quality saddlery and leather goods and continues to be so. British made saddlery is the best in the world, and like many of her peers in the Society of Master Saddlers’ can turn their hand to a wide variety of leather bespoke items.
